FELDENKRAIS LOS ANGELES
Who Feldenkrais Is NOT For
While technically open to anyone, Feldenkrais isn’t everyone’s cup of organic freshly foraged tea. We get it. If you identify with any of the following, you might have a harder time enjoying the method:
The Instant Gratification Devotees
If your fitness philosophy is "no pain, no gain" and you measure success by how close to vomiting you get, Feldenkrais will feel like watching paint dry – except the paint is your nervous system and it's actually fascinating, but you've already left the room to do burpees.
The "Fix Me" Crowd
If you're looking for someone to treat you like a broken appliance that needs fixing while you passively receive "treatment," you might be disappointed. Feldenkrais is giving "active participation in your own nervous system development" energy, and that's just not everyone's vibe.
The Impatient Optimizers
If you can't read an article without a "5-minute hack" in the title, Feldenkrais might frustrate you. This method is the slow food movement of somatic education – it takes time to cook properly, and no, your Instant Pot cannot replicate the results.
The Touch-Averse
One-on-one Feldenkrais work (FI) involves gentle, non-invasive touch. If being touched makes you uncomfortable even in a professional, therapeutic context, this could be challenging. (Though group classes might still work for you, because they are typically touch-free)
The "I Just Want My Exercise Box Checked" Types
If your goal is simply to count today's workout as done so you can get back to your real life, Feldenkrais might annoy you by becoming your real life. It has a sneaky way of integrating into how you think about everything.
The Competitive Achievement Hunters
If you need quantifiable metrics and leaderboards to feel successful, you might struggle here. "I sensed a new pathway through my hip joint today which revealed something about a chapter in my book I’ve been stuck writing" doesn't translate always well to Strava updates.
The Hyper-Intellectual Disconnectors
If you prefer to live entirely in your head and treat your body like an inconvenient transportation system for your brain, Feldenkrais is going to ask you to make a very uncomfortable reconnection.
The "I Already Know My Body" Know-It-Alls
If you believe you've reached peak body awareness and movement efficiency, Feldenkrais might be humbling. And by "might," I mean it absolutely will show you how much you don't know about yourself. The good news? Most people who initially think Feldenkrais isn't for them discover they're actually perfect candidates once they give it a try. The method has a way of sneaking past your defenses and revealing exactly what you didn't know you needed.
