FELDENKRAIS LOS ANGELES
Functional Integration (FI)
Imagine if someone could read the autobiography your nervous system has been secretly writing all these years, then help you edit the chapters that aren't serving the plot. That's Functional Integration (FI) — the hands-on, one-on-one experience that's like getting a PhD in your own movement patterns.
FI isn't about "fixing" you — you're not broken. It's about expanding possibilities, reducing limitations, and reminding your nervous system of its inherent intelligence and adaptability. It's the movement education experience you didn't know you needed until you try it, and then can't imagine living without.
What Actually Happens?
You'll lie or sit (fully clothed, exhale that relief) on a low, comfortable table or floor pad while your practitioner becomes the Sherlock Holmes of your movement patterns. Through gentle, non-invasive touch and guided movements, they'll investigate the mystery of your habitual patterns and introduce your nervous system to exciting plot twists.
This isn't massage — we're not trying to "release" anything. It's not chiropractic — nothing is being "adjusted." It's more like having someone speak directly to your nervous system in its native language, bypassing the overthinking translator in your conscious mind.
-
Your session is designed specifically for your body, your patterns, your needs. No cookie-cutter protocols here – this is bespoke movement education.
-
The touch is gentle, precise, and sometimes so subtle you might wonder if anything is happening... until you stand up and feel like you've been completely reorganized from the inside out.
-
Unlike virtually everything else in life, you don't need to "try hard" during FI. Your job is to notice, sense, and allow. That's it. Your practitioner does the heavy lifting (which isn't actually heavy because force is so last season).
-
What feels like simple movements is actually creating new neural pathways, expanding your movement vocabulary, and upgrading your self-image. It's basically neuroplasticity in action.
-
Many people experience a state of relaxation so deep it makes their meditation app look like an energy drink. Some people fall asleep, which is actually perfect — your unconscious mind is taking notes.
The Aftermath
After an FI session, you might:
- Feel taller, lighter, more coordinated
- Move with unexpected ease and lack of pain
- Experience changes in posture, breath, and voice
- Have creative, emotional, or intuitive breakthroughs
- Wonder if your body was switched with a more functional model
- Immediately want to book another Feldenkrais session
